Paul Cravath

Dr. Cravath is a scholar, teacher, actor and theater director with extensive Asian research experience. His book is based on primary research conducted in the former Khmer Republic (now Cambodia) under the auspices of their Ministry of Culture and the University of Hawaii, followed by 10 years of archival research in the US. Since 1986, Cravath has worked as Professor of Theater at the University of Hawaii-LCC.

Kent Davis

Davis is a publisher, translator, educator and independent researcher specializing in Southeast Asia through his work at DatASIA, Inc. His primary research focuses on the devata (goddess) images of Angkor Wat. In 2007, Davis and his wife Sophaphan funded construction of the Srei Devata middle school in Baray, Kompong Thom through AAfC and continue working on a series of educational projects benefiting Cambodia.

In 1936, the Société des Artistes Coloniaux in Paris selected Despujols to travel throughout French Indochina to record his impressions on canvas and paper. His evocative works were only exhibited a few times until 1969 when they became part of the permanent collection of the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Helen Jessup, PhD - Friends of Khmer Culture

Dr. Jessup is a scholar, curator and author. Her pro-active foundation supports educational projects including the Cambodian National Museum, Heritage Watch, Reyum Institute, Angkor Wat preservation, and other key causes. She kindly provided numerous contacts and much guidance in in arranging the publication of this historic first edition of Earth in Flower.

Mr. Bernard Krisher - CambodiaSchools.com

Mr. Krisher founded The Cambodia Daily, the country’s largest English newspaper and, in 1999, American Assistance for Cambodia (AAfC). Since then, AAfC has located funding and coordinated construction for more than 300 Cambodian schools, including the Srei Devata Middle School funded by Earth in Flower's editor, his wife and DatASIA. The publisher is grateful to Mr. Krisher and Mr. Meng Dy for their indispensible logistical support in Cambodian.

Jaro Poncar, PhD

Dr. Poncar, a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, acquired his PhD in theoretical physics before gaining renown as a photographer, and a specialist in panoramic images. Since 1993, his brilliant imaging work has defined Angkor Wat and the Bayon for the world. His images and guidance provided a new visual dimension for this edition of Earth in Flower.

John Gollings

In 1967 John Gollings received private tuition from Ansel Adams in his darkroom at Carmel, California. He has taught the use of large format cameras, and lectured on architectural photography at Prahran College, Melbourne and Sydney universities and Philip Institute amongst others. Recently he has devoted himself to exhibitions and books with academic and cultural significance, including Earth in Flower.

Michael Greenhalgh – Artserve

French newspaper Le Monde cited Professor Greenhalgh’s “Artserve” web site as one of the 15 best art Internet sites in the world, grouping it with the Louvre, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Beaubourg, Guggenheim, the Metropolitan and the Hermitage. Prof Greenhalgh is Professor Emeritus of Art History at the Australian National University.

Vittorio Roveda, PhD

Dr. Roveda’s most recent book, Images of the Gods, defined Cambodian art with his comprehensive visual catalog of Khmer mythology and symbolism featuring more than 1,800 images and detailed descriptions. His work provides key images for this edition of Earth in Flower.

With more than 20 years of graphic design experience, Kristen Tuttle was a godsend to Earth in Flower. Kristen chose a text layout with broad spacing and a larger font to make Earth in Flower more accessible for ESL (English as a Second Language) readers. Then she tamed the extensive endnotes, bibliography, graphics, tables, multiple languages and Khmer script titles. We are grateful for Kristen's painstaking dedication in helping to create this important cultural record.
